| Ambitions | Matt’s ambition is not rank or recognition but rather redemption. His goal is to serve Starfleet honorably and to prove himself as a reliable and competent officer. His dream is to one day join a security detachment aboard an exploration vessel, protecting those who explore the unknown frontiers of the Federation. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Off duty, Matt enjoys camping, hiking, and target practice, often using the holodeck to simulate challenging terrain or tactical drills. He also takes part in security holotraining scenarios, honing both his physical reflexes and strategic thinking. He’s curious about new cultures and sometimes joins science or away team briefings simply to learn. While quiet by nature, he enjoys sharing stories over coffee with other junior officers and is known to offer practical if sometimes questionable advice to Academy graduates adjusting to life aboard ship. |
| Personal History | Matt was raised in a modest home near the Olympic Peninsula. His father’s engineering background and his mother’s emphasis on education gave him a structured, disciplined upbringing. Though intelligent and curious, Matt often struggled with authority and structure as a teenager, leading to a rebellious streak that carried into his early Starfleet years. Accepted into the Security and Tactical Division, Matt excelled in combat training and tactical analysis but had difficulty with discipline and chain of command adherence. He was intelligent and skilled, but lacked consistency. His instructors described him as “competent under pressure, but unpredictable when idle.” After graduating, Matt’s first posting was aboard the Helios, a patrol ship assigned to border security duties near the frontier. His early service record was promising as he displayed strong tactical instincts and courage during boarding drills and security responses. Matt was later transferred to the Leipzig, a mid range explorer operating in the Beta Quadrant. While effective in his duties, he clashed with a superior officer during a security operation where he believed the chain of command made a tactical misjudgment. Though his criticism was not entirely unjustified, his delivery was considered insubordinate. The resulting report led to a disciplinary hearing. He was reassigned to Outpost Theta 9, a remote communications and monitoring station, as disciplinary action. The posting was monotonous, offering little in the way of excitement or advancement but it forced Matt to face himself. Away from the distractions and camaraderie of starship life, he learned humility, patience, and responsibility. He began to rebuild his work ethic and sense of purpose. After a year of solid conduct, Starfleet approved his request for reinstatement to an active vessel. He was posted to the USS Eclipse as a Security Officer, where he has continued to work on improving himself as a Starfleet officer. |
