Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Jaina tries her best to be an example of Starfleet’s ideals: loyal, dedicated, and principled. From a young age, she dreamed of wearing the uniform and serving the Federation. She sees Starfleet not simply as an organization but as a calling and an opportunity to protect and aid those who can't defend themselves. While she enjoys time off duty engaging in social gatherings, music, and the occasional holodeck program, she treats her position with unwavering seriousness. She has a strong moral compass that is guided both by Starfleet regulations and her own sense of justice. Though she accepts that flexibility and conscience are sometimes necessary, she believes that bending or breaking the rules should always be a last resort and never a convenience. | |
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Deeply loyal to Starfleet, her crewmates, and her friends. Adaptable under pressure, able to assess situations quickly and find solutions. Well rounded officer with strong training in both tactical systems and shipboard security operations. Naturally empathetic, able to connect with others and earn trust. Sometimes too rigid in her interpretation of Starfleet regulations. Struggles with authority figures who show disregard for rules or ethical standards. Can be overly self critical when she feels she has failed. Tends to avoid seeking command opportunities, which can make her hesitate in situations requiring initiative outside her comfort zone. |
|
| Ambitions | Unlike many of her peers, Jaina has no particular desire to one day command her own starship. She is content and even proud to dedicate herself fully to the role of protector and guardian. Her ambition is to serve honorably, defend those in her care, and ensure her service makes a difference in the lives of others. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Jaina enjoys holodeck fencing programs, classical Earth literature, and hiking simulations. |
| Personal History | Jaina was born in 2365 in Paris, Earth. Her parents, Marcus and Talia Zalla, were civilians who lived through the uncertainties of that era. Marcus worked as a transport coordinator for Federation shipping lanes, while Talia was a teacher at a local academy. Growing up during the turbulent era of the 2360s and 2370s, Jaina was raised in a household where Federation ideals were cherished but never taken for granted. Her parents often spoke of how fragile peace could be and instilled in her both a sense of gratitude for Starfleet’s sacrifices and a duty to preserve that peace. Jaina excelled academically and athletically in her youth, though she was never the type to chase accolades. Instead, she developed a reputation for reliability and fairness among her peers. Her fascination with both history and ethics shaped her worldview, and by the age of sixteen, she had decided firmly to join Starfleet Academy. At the Academy, Jaina majored in Security Operations with a secondary focus in Tactical Systems. She distinguished herself in strategic simulations and hand to hand combat but also developed a deep respect for the chain of command and the philosophy behind Starfleet regulations. Professors often remarked on her ability to argue for the principles behind the rules, not just their enforcement. After graduating in 2387, her first assignment was aboard the USS Halcyon, a Saber class vessel assigned to border patrol duties near the Cardassian frontier. She spent four years there, rising to Assistant Security Chief. In 2391, she was reassigned to the USS Ardent, an Akira class starship, where she gained valuable experience in large scale fleet operations. Her steady record of competence and loyalty led to her promotion and transfer to the USS Eclipse as Chief Security and Tactical Officer in 2495. |
